On September 4th 2008, the cities of Valladolid and Lecce expressed a desire to tighten the bonds of friendship between the two townships and get to know each other better.
The cities of Lecce and Valladolid thus reaffirmed a long standing relationship focusing mainly on the academic world. Since 1982, Professor Gennaro Loiotine, with the support of the Dean of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Salento has been organising groups of students who attend summer courses for foreigners in Valladolid. In this way, groups of students travel to our city to carry out practical experience in banks, The Chamber of Commerce of Valladolid and The Faculty of Economic Science. They also participate in conferences by teachers from the Faculty of Economic Science.
In 2003 an Erasmus agreement was signed by the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Valladolid and the Economics Faculty of the University of Salento in Lecce and in 2004 a Framework Agreement was signed between the two universities which was renewed in 2007.
Lecce and Valladolid established channels of experience exchange in areas of urban transformation and also economic, scientific, cultural, sports, social, tourism activities and the promotion of the study of the Spanish language.
