On November 3rd 2006 the cities of Orlando, Florida and Valladolid expressed a desire to tighten the bonds of friendship and move forward in the relationship between the two cities and their inhabitants.
This coincided with the historic opportunity offered by the celebration of the fifth Centenary of the death of Christopher Columbus in Valladolid and the close connection between Ponce de León and Florida. Both cities agreed to promote exchanges in the areas of urban planning, the environment, social programs, education, science, language, history, food, culture, sport, commerce, tourism and other areas of mutual interest which foment bilateral relations and deepen those which already exist.
